Obituary

Feeding Hills – Gail Marie (Lawson) Curnow passed away on Friday December 2, 2022, at Baystate Medical Center Intensive Care, Springfield MA, with her husband Fran and her brother Arthur Lawson by her side. Gail was born in Springfield, MA, on November 7, 1946, to the late Fred J. Lawson and Jennie A. (Statkum) Lawson.
Gail graduated from Agawam High School in 1964 having been elected as a member of the Agawam Chapter of the National Honor Society and she was also school drum major. She graduated from Westfield State College with a Bachelor of Science in Education on June 9, 1968.
She married Marine Lieutenant Francis Curnow on May 30, 1968, at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Springfield, MA.
Gail taught for 34 years in Agawam at James Clark Elementary School including one year at Camp Lejeune School in 1969.
Gail lived over 70 years in Agawam except for time spent with Fran when he served in the Marines. She fulfilled a lifelong dream when acquiring a summer home in Dennis Port, MA.
Gail always loved animals and in 1986 she started breeding and showing English Bulldogs, gaining four champions in a lifelong love affair with the breed.
She was known for her annual Christmas Open Houses, which she hosted for over twenty years. She also served as an Auxiliary Member with the Marine Corps League in Westfield.
She is survived by her husband Francis Curnow of Feeding Hills and her brother Arthur Lawson and his wife Carol of Agawam, her nephew Andrew Lawson and his partner Larry Frailey, her niece Tammy Vermes and her husband Hal, and many family members, co-teachers and longtime friends.
Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the Intensive Care Staff at Baystate Medical Center for their love and care of Gail.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 985 Main St., Agawam, MA. A Marine Corps League Service will be at 6 p.m. Her burial will be on Friday December 16, 2022, starting at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a procession to the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA.
