Obituary

Emma Florian, 73, passed away at home on Friday, September 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Emma was born on April 5, 1949, in La Paz, Bolivia to Gregorio De Alencar, Elena Virocochea De Alencar. She lived in La Paz, Bolivia, until 1985 where she moved to Waltham, MA where she met her husband of 35 years, Daniel Florian Sr. Daniel and Emma were married on November 21st,1987.
Emma was a beloved Certified Nursing Assistant at Wingate of East Longmeadow for 25 years. Emma was the most loving, caring, kindest, and passionate person where people would specifically request for her home health services to care for their loved ones. Emma had the biggest heart for everyone she met and loved meeting people and sharing her wonderful stories of growing up in Bolivia or just her past experiences in general. Her presence would light up the room and always leave us in tears laughing at the end of most stories. Always had great sense of humor and knew how to pull a good prank. She was an exceptional cook and baker where she was known for baking variety of delicious deserts for all occasions and especially during the holidays where she would create an assortment of cookies and prepared arrangements for friends and family. She loved to travel, and spend time in Naples Florida. One of her favorite trips was traveling through Italy. Emma enjoyed morning walks at the local Bike Trail, and exercising with her Zumba gals. Emma lived in East Longmeadow for 27 years, and she will be greatly missed by many friends, family, and neighbors. She leaves a legacy of love through her children. She leaves behind her daughter Tatiana Suarez of La Paz, Boliva; son Omar and daughter-in-law Carla Gutierrez of East Longmeadow, MA; son Luis and his wife Geraldine Gutierrez of East Longmeadow, MA; son Daniel Florian Jr. of East Longmeadow, MA; 8 beautiful grandchildren, Samantha Gutierrez, Isabella Gutierrez, Ian Gutierrez, Santiago Gutierrez, Paola Gutierrez, Nicole Gutierrez, Junior Suarez and Brook Suarez. She is also survived by her siblings from Bolivia, Willy De Alencar, Miguel De Alencar, Norka De Alencar, Ivonne De Alencar and pre-deceased by her brother Lucio De Alencar.
Her family would like to thank Baystate Oncology Floor Staff, D'amour Cancer Center and Baystate hospice team for their incredible care for Emma.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 4-7pm, Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 North Main St. East Longmeadow MA. Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 10:30am at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30am at St. Michael’s Church at 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Burial will be at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.
