Elsie C Janczulewicz

January 11, 1923 ~ October 28, 2019 (age 96)

Springfield – Elsie Clara (Alovis) Janczulewicz, age 96, formerly of Hungry Hill in Springfield, entered into eternal life in Heaven with God on October 28, 2019 at Baystate Medical Center, with her family by her side. She was born in Springfield on January 11, 1923 to the late Alfred and Matilda (Martinelli) Alovis. Elsie was a graduate of Commerce High School. She was employed with the Springfield School Department for 43 years as a Senior Clerk Typist. She was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Springfield and was very active with its Women’s Guild and the Women’s Sodality. Elsie was involved in many clubs and social activities over the years, including the Our Lady of Hope Women’s Guild, Stella D’Italia, Golden Agers, and the Padre Pio Prayer Group, where she served as Treasurer. She enjoyed traveling over the years and loved to socialize with friends. She was always seen briskly walking through Hungry Hill and throughout Springfield. Elsie loved her children and her family dearly.
She is survived by her son, James Janczulewicz of Springfield, her daughter, Mary Kelly and her husband John, of South Hadley; her sister, Virginia Nascimento of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Stefanie, Anthony, and Joseph Janczulewicz, and Anthony, Anna, Daniel, and Nicholas Kelly. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Eugene “Gino” Janczulewicz in 2009 and two brothers, Alfred and Robert Alovis. Elsie will be dearly missed by her son and daughter, her seven grandchildren, her son-in-law, and all her friends that knew her, especially her close friend, Carol. Her kindness spoke volumes to anyone who met her. Elsie’s smile and twinkle in her eyes were able to warm any heart. Her contagious laugh was always able to light up a room, and bring joy to those around her. Elsie was a devout Catholic and she showed her faith through her abundance of love, kindness, and forgiveness toward others. She will remain in the hearts and memories of all who loved her.
Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Tuesday, November 5 from 4-7PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Elsie’s funeral will be held Wednesday, November 6 starting at 8:45AM at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Mt.
