Elsie Mae Gosselin

October 23, 1927 ~ July 23, 2021 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Obituary

Elsie M. Gosselin, 93, passed away on July 23, 2021 at Heritage Hall West in Agawam. Born in Springfield, MA on October 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Leon and Edna (Wile) Wood, she graduated 2nd in her class from Agawam High School. She took many courses on lighting and decorating and became a well-known Interior Decorator in the Springfield area. Whether working for Earle’s Wallpaper and Roy’s Home Decorating, or through her own consulting business, she decorated banks, businesses, and homes and was a constant consultant for her entire family.

Elsie enjoyed being involved in her community, and for her, there truly were no strangers – only friends she had not yet met. In her retirement years, she was Docent at the Springfield Museums where she put her skills to work. She also was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Ahlem Temple # 84, American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 338, the Historical Society of Southwick, and she was active in the “Bookworms” Book Club she helped to establish in her Rosewood Community.

Elsie was an avid entertainer and enjoyed gathering with friends and family as often as possible, and especially on holidays. Saturday night was often reserved for card playing, and Sunday for church where she was an enthusiastic singer. As a communicant of Southwick Congregational Church, Elsie was an active member of the Flowers and Music Committees. Elsie made everyone she knew feel special, and if you were lucky enough to enter her orbit, you would be blessed with her easy smile and ready laugh as well as an invitation to the next event, a birthday card in the mail, or an ‘unbirthday gift’ on someone else’s special day. Elsie knew how to live life to the fullest and found joy in each day.

Besides her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her husband Ronald A. Gosselin and her brother, George Wood. To cherish her memory, she leaves her children Peter Gosselin of South Carolina, Norma Cagney and her husband James of Westfield and Loretta Johnson and her husband Gary of Granville; her grandchildren Susan Dargie (Mark), Sharon Caldwell (Brian), Kathryn Miller (Andrew), Emily Johnson, and Rebecca Kellam (Joshua); her great grandchildren Nathan, Luke, Amanda, Angela, William, Grayson and Benjamin; her beloved brother Earl Wood as well as her cherished nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 9 – 10 AM at Southwick Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 624 College Highway, Southwick. A service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Southwick Congregational Church, 488 College Highway, Southwick. Burial will follow in New Cemetery in Southwick.
