Obituary

Elmer T. Johnson, Jr., 75, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 with family by his side. Elmer was born in Springfield and was the son of Mary (Earley) and Elmer. T. Johnson, Sr. He graduated from Classical High School and the former Ricker College in Houlton, Maine. He was an Engineer at Pratt & Whitney for over 29 years before working at OMG. Elmer had many interests including fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He spent many hours golfing, gardening and doing yard work. He was a member of the Agawam Revolver Club, the National Rifle Association (NRA) the New England Ox Team Association, the American Power Boat Association, the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), the New England Trail Riders Association and was on the board of directors for the Southwick Recreational Center. He was a friend of Bill W. and celebrated over 30 years of sobriety. His dedication to AA helped him make important friendships and he was involved in numerous programs and outreach including in the prisons helping inmates. He would do anything for everyone and was a good friend. Elmer enjoyed keeping busy and being involved in sports, where he was a hockey and soccer coach for many years early in his life, and continued that passion when rooting for his adored grandson Jesse at his sporting events.

He leaves behind his family to cherish his memory, including his wife of 50 years, Donna (Roberts) Johnson; their two sons, Jeffrey and his wife Erica of Milwaukee WI, and Kevin Johnson of Southwick; their daughter Amy Johnson of Southwick; his sister Patricia Barnes of Callahan FL; four grandchildren: Jesse, Ariel, Thomas and Gabriel; and his best friend Mark DeGray. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his son Jeremy Johnson who passed away in 2014.

A celebration of Elmer’s life will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019, beginning with visiting hours from 3:00-5:00pm, followed by a ceremony at 5:00pm at Southwick Forastiere Funeral & Cremation on 624 College Highway in Southwick. Donations may be made in Elmer’s memory to Southwick High School Athletic Scholarship Fund.
