Ellen Knies Landis

Ellen “Ellie” K. Landis, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at   home on August 30, 2020, at the age of 76. She was born on February 7, 1944, in Bethlehem, PA to Kathryn (Sterner) and Irvin Knies. She was predeceased by her parents, sister, Ann, and brother, Robert.  She married Dr. John N. Landis, II on June 18, 1966, and together they raised two sons, John and Dana. Ellie graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She volunteered countless hours in her local community, mentoring students in the areas of science and creative arts. She found great joy pursuing her passions of gardening, flowers, good wine, classical music, and photography. Most of all, Ellie treasured time with her family, whether it was cross-country skiing in Vermont, enjoying a beautiful sunset across Silver Lake, or simply gathering together around the table for a meal or game of cards.  Ellie is survived by her husband, Dr. John N. Landis, II, Longmeadow, MA; son John N. (Gwen) Landis, III, Richmond, VT; son Dana R. (Devon) Landis, Jacksonville, FL; and four grandchildren, Jack, Kathryn, Sarah, and Duncan.
