Elizabeth A Pomeroy

Elizabeth A. (Methot) Pomeroy, 84 of East Longmeadow, passed on Friday August 23, 2019 at home with her family by her side. She was born on January 18, 1935 in Springfield, MA to the late Edward and Marie (Duval) Methot. She grew-up in Indian Orchard. Loved playing the piano at an early age and continued throughout her life. She also enjoyed ice skating when she was a young lady and continued when she had grandchildren sharpening her blades again. In the early seventies she coached the East Longmeadow Recreation Assoc Swim Team (ELRA) with her husband Leon and with the swimmers assistance established the name “Marlins Swim Team” which still carries the name today, 50 years on. She enjoyed camping for many years with her family traveling to many locations along the east coast from Maine to South Carolina. Betty was also committed to supporting her children and grandchildren, and she made many trips with Leon all over New England and the east coast to bring, watch, coach and support them in swimming, hockey, football, lacrosse and soccer, which brought her tremendous joy. She worked at the East Longmeadow High School cafeteria and was assistant swimming coach for the girl’s high school swim team where both of her daughters swam on the team. Betty was also a girl scout leader, Gridiron mom and president of the club which her son Gary was a member. She worked at Springfield College for several years then on to American Red Cross. Her last job, where she retired from, was American Saw. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She made many items for her children and grandchildren which they all have cherished. In retirement, she has spent time getting together with her sister Chris and her cousins enjoying their time together over lunches. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years Leon F., and her brother Gilbert Methot. She will be deeply missed by her caring children, daughters Beth A. Willadsen and her husband Michael of South Windsor, CT, and Susan Severyn and her husband Robert of Ludlow MA; son Gary and wife, Roxanne of Avon, CT. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Tyler Severyn of Ludow MA, and Breanna Severyn of Quincy MA , Alyssa Garriga and husband Ozzie of Hopedale, MA, Eric Willadsen and wife Sheralynn of Boise, ID, Christopher Willadsen of Chicago, IL, Catherine Gkotsis and husband Efthymios of Bronxville, NY and Veronica Pomeroy of Astoria, NY; great grandchildren Tannar Severyn and Weston Garriga; and her sister Christine (Bernie) Merli of Granby, CT. Family and friends are invited to gather Tuesday August 27, 2019 from 3-6:30 pm for calling hours in the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Elizabeth’s name may be made to the Sarcoma Institute Center, Dana Farber, 40 Brookline Ave., Suite D1222B, Boston, MA 02215, and to the East Longmeadow United Methodist Church, 215 Somers Road, East Longmeadow, MA 01028.
