Elizabeth Cooper

Glastonbury – Betty Cooper, 97, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday May 15, 2023. She was born December 14, 1925, the daughter of the late Norman and Marion (Stowell) Southwick. Born and raised in North Amherst, MA, Betty graduated from N. Amherst High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree from UMass, Amherst. After teaching for several years, Betty married Heywood Cooper and spent the rest of her life being a proud wife and homemaker in the house they built in East Longmeadow. Family vacations were a priority for Betty and Heywood, camping first in a roof top camper of their own design and later in a trailer, they traveled extensively in the eastern US and Canada. Betty was active in her church and a member of the DAR. She frequently spent time at the Senior Centers in East Longmeadow, Agawam and Hampden, MA before moving to an assisted living facility in Glastonbury, CT. She enjoyed collecting antiques, researching genealogy, and spending time with family. Rummikub was a big interest of hers in her later years. Betty was predeceased by her husband Heywood Cooper and a son Larry Cooper. She is survived by her daughter Cathy Tracy and her husband Dave of Glastonbury, CT; a son Jeff Cooper and his wife Judi Allen of Manchester, England; two grandchildren Doug Tracy of Miami Beach, FL and Jen Harvey and her husband John of Glastonbury, CT, and her precious great-granddaughter Amelia Harvey. Friends are invited to pay their respects Thursday June 1, 2023 from 10AM-11AM followed by a funeral home service at 11AM at Forastiere Funeral Home in East Longmeadow, MA. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, East Longmeadow, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Congregational Church, 7 Somers Rd, East Longmeadow, MA.
