Duilio “Nunzio” Santaniello
1933-2021
Duilio Gaetano Santaniello, known better as ‘Nunzio’, peacefully passed away in his home on June 14th, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. As a young man Nunzio immigrated to the United States from Quindici, Avellino Italy in 1953. Nunzio settled in Springfield, Massachusetts along with his parents and siblings. He was later joined by his lovely wife Filomena Scibelli in 1959.
Nunzio was employed as a machine operator at Danaher Corporation, formerly known as Moore Drop Forge, until his retirement in 1996. He worked tirelessly to provide for his four children never running out of wit and charm. His passion flourished outside in the garden where he became a beacon of generosity and kindness to the local Italian community, his paesano’s, for the best produce on the block.
He is survived by his loving wife Filomena (Filuccia) Santaniello of 67 years, his daughter Ida (Michael) Konderwicz of Ludlow, Linda Shea of Longmeadow, Nancy (Joseph) Tartaglia of Clearwater, Florida, and Andrew Santaniello of Middletown, Connecticut. In addition, he is predeceased by his son-in-law Gary Shea. Nunzio leaves grandchildren Michael Konderwicz, Nicole (Brian) Allen, Gary Shea, Patrick Shea, James Shea, Joseph (Christie) Tartaglia, Frank (Megan) Tartaglia, Gina (Steven) Rowland, Andrew Santaniello, and Amelia Santaniello. He is further survived by his great grandchildren, Joseph, Rosemarie, Charlotte, Violet, and Sophia Tartaglia.
Nunzio is predeceased by his brothers Antonio and Mario Santaniello. He is survived by his sisters Rosa Napolitano, Gaetana Basile, Carmela Santaniello, and brother Carmine Santaniello. Along with many nieces and nephews.
He had many wonderful friends, with special thanks to his buddy Franco Truoiolo. Family and friends are invited to meet at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home at 220 North Main St East Longmeadow from 4-7pm on Friday June 18th. His funeral will begin at 8:30am on Saturday the 19th at the funeral home, with a funeral mass beginning at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Springfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
