Dorothy M. Samble

LONGMEADOW- Dorothy M. (Tourtellot) Samble, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 12, 2019. Dorothy was born on March 13, 1924 in Springfield, MA to the late Frank E. and Dorothy M. (Reed) Tourtellot. She was educated locally and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from American International College. Dorothy was a strong woman and served as the fifth President of Belmont Laundry Inc. from 1967-1973, while simultaneously raising a family following the death of her husband Robert E. Samble in 1967. She was a longtime member of Twin Hills Country Club, as well as First Church of Christ in Longmeadow. Dorothy was an avid reader, crossword enthusiast, and loved gardening. Nothing made Dorothy happier than spending time with her family. She delighted in hosting holidays, as well as spending her summers in Biddeford Pool, ME enjoying lobster rolls and quality time with her family. To cherish her memory, Dorothy leaves her sons Robert Samble Jr. and his wife Carol, and Cory Samble and his wife Kim; daughter Donna Samble Young; grandchildren Jason McCarthy and his wife Leah, April McCarthy and her partner Bill, Arielle Young, Derek Samble and his wife Katie, Collin Young, and Brooklyn Samble; and her beloved great-grandchildren Brady McCarthy, Harper Samble, Jett Walker, and Mattelyn Samble. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her grandson Matthew R. Samble in 2013; her lifelong friend Dottie Basdekis; and her longtime friend and travel companion Lou Tunstall. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, September 16 from 4-7 at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., East Longmeadow. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, September 17 beginning from the funeral home at 8:45AM, with a funeral service to follow at First Church of Christ, 763 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow at 10AM. Burial will follow in Longmeadow Cemetery.
