Dolores A McDonald

March 6, 1930 ~ May 6, 2018 (age 88)

EAST LONGMEADOW – Dolores A. McDonald, 88, passed away surrounded by her loving children on May 6, 2018. Born in Pottsville, PA on March 6, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Marie (Fatula) Gillars. She enjoyed traveling, especially visiting National Parks and wintering in FL for 30 years with her late husband Charles “Chuck” McDonald with whom she enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Dolores was a voracious reader and loved to garden. She worked at the former Roosevelt Mills and Mercy Hospital. Most of all, she loved being a Mother and Nana and her greatest joy was her family. To cherish her memory she leaves her loving son, Edward McDonald and his wife Dani of East Longmeadow; three loving daughters, Lori Stoddard and her husband Richard of Wilbraham, Maureen Tyburski of East Longmeadow and Colleen Drummey and her husband Andrew of Longmeadow; 11 grandchildren Rory(Heather), Shane(Amanda), Dylan, and Kyleen McDonald, Christopher, Samuel, and Emily Stoddard, Thomas and Lauren McDonough and Bridget and Megan Drummey; great-grandchildren Desmond and Fiona McDonald, and her dear sister Marie (Joan) McDevitt of North Carolina and sisters in law, Mary Gillars of Florida and Viola (Vickie) McDonald of Connecticut, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides her parents and her husband Charles E. McDonald who passed away on February 25, 2016, she was also predeceased by a son-in-law David Tyburski and her brothers Christian Gillars who passed away in infancy and Alexander (Sandy) Gillars.  The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at East Village Place in East Longmeadow for their care and compassion. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 4-7 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 15 2018 beginning at 9:30 AM at the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Chestnut Street, Springfield. Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Main Street, Agawam.
