David John “Stocker” Stockwell, 72, died on September 11, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield with his wife by his side. He was born on April 17, 1951 to the late Alan and Virginia (Hyman) Stockwell in Winchester MA. At 18, David bravely joined the US Army, where he served in Vietnam. During his tour he received many metals, including a Bronze Service Star and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Upon his return he met his soulmate and best friend, Karen Guinis, and they shared 46 years of love in marriage. David worked in the auto industry all his life, starting off in auto parts, working for many years as the manager of Maple Auto Supply, East Longmeadow. After getting his trucking license, he worked with several companies including Brockway Leasing of Springfield. David found a passion for the open road, and soon after purchasing a truck, he started his own company, Riverside Auto Transport. He hauled cars, mostly snowbirds, for over 20 years before retiring.
David loved cars, especially vintage hot rods. His pride and joy was his 69 Camaro, which he enjoyed racing with his group of friends at Lebanon Valley Racetrack. His wife often said “I think he loves that car more than me”. He will be sadly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Karen (Guinis) Stockwell of East Longmeadow, MA, his brother-in-law Robert Guinis of Hampden, MA, his sister Ann Stapleton and her husband John C. of Sheridan, IN, his niece Kirsten Schmitz and her husband Erick of New Palestine, IN, his nephew Kurt Smith and his wife Cindy of Noblesville, IN, and many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Joanne McCarthy and her husband Robert and a great-nephew Brandon Beeler.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 10am – 12pm on Wednesday September 20, 2023 at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 N Main St., East Longmeadow, MA. Burial will follow in Old Cemetery, Hampden, MA.
