Springfield- Cory J. Jergensen died unexpectedly on August 20, 2019. Born in Springfield to his parents Bruce and Helen (Perez) Jergensen, Cory was one of four brothers and was the baby among Bret, Chad and Robert. He married Sarah (Gassnola) Jergensen in 2012 and they have 2 daughters; Penelope and Hope. Cory also leaves behind a niece; Sierra, and 3 nephews; Aidan, Connery and Owen. Additionally, he is survived by his maternal grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cory grew up in Springfield and attended Sabis International Charter School, graduating in 2005. In school he was passionate about art courses and displayed several pieces in student art contests. Cory had a true natural gift for drawing and painting. After graduating from high school, Cory was employed in various fields. His versatility and dedication allowed him to perform well at many different tasks. He worked in security, the restaurant business, construction and carpentry, and the machining industry. Occupationally, Cory found his calling more recently working through the Center For Human Development in two different programs helping to counsel teens and youth. He worked with teens in the juvenile justice system and also with young people seeking rehabilitation from substance abuse issues. Cory loved these jobs and was grateful to be afforded opportunities to give back to his community, offering support, grace, and human connection to populations that he felt were often alienated and dehumanized in the collective public perception.
Cory had a generous spirit and a big heart. This loss is a profound sadness for his family and friends. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Services will be held privately by the family. To honor Cory a donation may be made in his name to a go fund me page established to benefit his wife and children https://www.gofundme.com/f/cory-jergensen.
