Cora P. Woodend

Springfield – Cora (Palin) Woodend, went home to God on her 100th Birthday. She had wished to meet that milestone and did so with grace and love in her heart on Monday, July 30, 2018. She was born in Wilson, CT to the late Alexander and Rose (Rollet) Palin on July 30, 1918.  She was a 1936 graduate of Hartford Public High School. She was employed at the Stanley P. Rockwell Company, Hartford, CT for several years.  She married the love of her life, “Skip”, in 1941.  Residing in Hartford, CT and then West Hartford, CT, she spent the next many years devoted to raising her family before returning to work as the Parish Secretary at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford, CT.  She retired after 20 years in 1989. Cora had a strong love for family. Being surrounded by them was when she was most happy.  She spent her retirement years doing so. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband of 39 years, George A. Woodend, February 1980; her daughter, Sister Mary Norman, CLHC. of the Maryvale Sisters, August 2016; and her 5 sisters, Louise Warner Morin, Mary McBride, Lena Hickerson, Georgiana Morin, and Rose Reynolds. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Joseph G. Woodend of Springfield, MA with whom she made her home; 2 daughters, Mary Dupuis of Naugatuck, Ct., and Rosanne Krawiec of Springfield, MA; 5 loving grandchildren, Julianna Dupuis, Sarah Dupuis, Jeffrey Dupuis, Timothy Krawiec and his wife Kathleen, and Zachary Krawiec; and special nephew, Brian Morin and his wife Connie. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, August 2nd from 6-8PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral and Cremation, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, MA.  Cora’s Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 3rd at 11AM in St Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford, CT.  Memorial contributions may be made in Cora’s memory to The Maryvale Sisters, 2522 June Bug Rd., Vale, NC 28168.  For more information or to leave a condolence for the family please visit: www.forastiere.com.
