Springfield- Charles “Chick” J. Scalia, 94, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019. Born on December 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Carmello & Lillian (Agliata) Scalia. Chick entered the Navy in 1943 and was posted in the South Pacific on the ship USS Adhara. While he served he was active in the Navy Choir. His career included employment with L. Slaybard, Bradley Field, Hamilton Standard and Mercy Hospital, where he retired.
Chick will be fondly remembered for his love of music, bowling, golf, and roller skating. His favorite past time of all was enjoying each precious moment surrounded by loving family.
In addition to his parents, Chick was predeceased by his wife Barbara Ann (Michaliszyn) Scalia; his son Charles Scalia; his brother Joseph Scalia; and his sister Josephine “Jay” Chrusciel. He is survived by his four children, Thomas Scalia of Spring Hill, FL, Lillian Crouser & David Scarbeau of Hampden, MA, Charlotte Scalia & Mike Loewel of Punta Gorda, FL, and Dorie & Dan Justice of Enfield, CT; grandchildren David and Kym Scalia, Jordan Crouser, Daniel, Rachel, and Aaron Justice; 4 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on March 13, 2019 from 10:30-11:30am at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, East Longmeadow, MA 01028, followed by a funeral service at 11:30am. Burial with military honors will take place at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield.
