Obituary

Southwick – Charles Robert Colson “Chink”, age 94, passed away peacefully September 25, 2018. Born September 6, 1924 in Springfield, MA, he was a son of the late Robert and Meita (McEwan) Colson. He was a 1943 graduate of Suffield High School, which was also the first four-year class of the school. While growing up in West Suffield, CT he met his future wife Anne (Nutter) while rolling skating at Babbs Roller Skating Rink. Following graduation, he served his country proudly during WWII with the US Army, and participated in both D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He owned and operated Pioneer Dairy with his late wife Anne, serving as Vice President. Chink is survived by his sons C. Brett Colson and his wife, Donna (Morse), and Paul R. Colson and his wife Carla (Cecchini). Chink was affectionately known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Bumpus”, which included grandchildren C. Brett Colson II, Zachary S. Colson and his wife, Crystal, Sarah A. Bedard and her husband, Christopher, Paul M. Colson and his wife, Lauren Kopec, Angela Colson and her husband, Ervin Qyra; and great-grandchildren Lucas Scott Colson, Jacob Dylan Colson and Elliot Colson Bedard. He also leaves his siblings Robert E. Colson and wife, Joan, Betty Maksymiw, Ruth A. Oltsch, and Shirley A. Hinckley; his niece Carol A. Barnes and husband, Gene; and several other nieces, nephews, their families, and many friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Anne; he was predeceased by his brothers Howard J. Colson and Wesley G. Colson; sister Esther Symonds; and brothers-in-law Robert Hinckley and Roger Oltsch. A funeral service for Charlie will be held at 10AM on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick, followed by interment in New Cemetery, Southwick. Calling hours will be held from 4-7PM on Friday, September 28th at the funeral home.
