Bruno S. Smilgys
February 11, 1931 ~ July 7, 2021 (age 90) 90 Years Old
West Suffield – Bruno Smilgys, 90, passed away peacefully on July 7. He was born on February 11, 1931 in Lithuania to the late Frank and Sophia Smilegus. Bruno and his family returned to the US and settled in Hartford CT. After graduating high school, Bruno bravely entered the US Army and served during the Korean War. Bruno went on to graduate from The University of Hartford with an Engineering Degree and worked for Veeder-Root for nearly 40 years. He was a creative and talented engineer who held many patents. Bruno was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Church. He enjoyed taking cruises with his wife Orysia, camping at Burlingame and Rocky Neck, and boating and fishing at his lake-front home. Bruno was a loving and caring man who was quiet and reserved. He had a passion for woodworking and taking long walks in the forest, and his heart was full of love for his family. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Orysia (Lech) Smilgys, his children Lawrence Smilgys of CA, Diane Sheehan and husband John of FL, Victor Smilgys and husband Van of AZ, daughter-in-law Melinda Smilgys of CA, grandchildren Jack, Stephen and Julia Sheehan, Devin Anderson and wife Lyndsae and daughters Aurora and Delilah, niece Karin Curtis and husband Tom, nephew Russell Smilgys, and many friends. In addition to his parents, Bruno was predeceased by his two sons David and Daniel, and brother Victor. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday July 12 from 4-7pm in Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 985 Main St. Agawam MA. A celebration of Bruno’s life will start Tuesday July 13 at 8:45am in the funeral home. A Mass will follow at 10am in Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Southwick MA, and burial with Military Honors at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield CT.
