Obituary

Bruno A. Branchesi, 100, passed away on Thursday, July 26. Born in Les Cedres, Canada, on January 22, 1918, he was the son of the late Giacinto and Ida (Cespulli) Branchesi. He spent most of his life in Springfield, graduating from Springfield Technical High School in 1935. Bruno was a proud veteran of World War II, serving overseas in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corp and Signal Corp. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Boston University in 1948. Bruno was an Industrial Engineer at the Uniroyal Tire Company, where he met his loving wife, Tasia Malandrinos, who predeceased him in 1989. He retired in 1981, and later became the Financial Aid Officer for the school department at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, where he worked until the age of 85. He also was a 20 year volunteer at Baystate Medical Center, leaving at the age of 98. He was a member of St. George Cathedral, in Springfield, where he served as secretary of the board and later as treasurer of the Building Committee.  He was a member and secretary of the Adriatic Club in Springfield for many years, and a member of the American Legion Post #430. Bruno loved baseball and was an avid Red Sox fan. He enjoyed golf until the age of 93 and played in the Uniroyal Golf League for over 50 years, which he managed for many years. He also enjoyed woodworking and painting, which he took up later in life. Besides his beloved wife and parents, Bruno was predeceased by an infant sister, a brother, Mando (Benny) Branchesi, and a sister, Yolanda Silvestri. He is survived by his loving sister, Emelinda  Gacona, of Feeding Hills, his daughters, Krista Hanson and her husband, Glenn of Alton, NH, Lisa Branchesi and her husband, Ronald Gadry, of Taunton, MA; three adored grandchildren, Adrianne Hanson, and David and Amanda Gadry, who meant the world to him; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bruno also leaves his long time loving companion, Mary Campbell, of Feeding Hills.  Calling hours for Bruno will be held from 4-7pm on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from Forastiere Funeral Home, 45 Locust St., Springfield.  A funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 St. George Rd., Springfield.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Chicopee.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 St. George Rd, Springfield, MA 01104, Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA 01104, or the charity of your choice.
