Beverly Claire (Sanford) Gray, age 90, of Longmeadow, Massachusetts and Charlestown, Rhode Island passed away on April 23, 2022. Born in Lakewood, Ohio to Mable Anita Bennett Sanford and Percil Lyman Sanford, she moved to Agawam, MA and then to Longmeadow in 1937. She graduated from Classical (Central) High School and the University of Massachusetts. She was a teacher at Longmeadow Junior High School. In later years, she worked in the office with her husband, Dr. George Robert Gray. For many years, Beverly was active in Girl Scouts. She was a long-time election worker in Longmeadow and served on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Additionally, she was a long-standing member of the First Church of Christ, UCC in Longmeadow where she served on many boards and committees. She loved spending time at Central Beach, Quonochontaug, Rhode Island near the ocean and was a member of the Beach and Dunes Committee. As a member of the American Littoral Society, she participated in its fish tagging program. Beverly was a volunteer for Baystate VNA hospice. She is predeceased by Dr. George Robert Gray, her husband of 51 years, and a sister Norma Pennington of Flagstaff, Arizona. She leaves her three children, June Cairns and her husband, Tom, of Concord, NH, Martha Rouleau and her husband, Nelson of Chesterfield, VA, and George Gray and his wife, Cathy, of Ashaway, RI, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 14, 2022 at 1PM at First Church of Christ, 763 Longmeadow Street, Longmeadow, MA. We will remember Beverly for her generous heart, love of birds and the environment, perseverance, and positive attitude amidst all odds. She always kept God and her family close to her heart.
