Barbara B. Steiger

Barbara (Barrett) Steiger (b 9/12/1930) of Longmeadow MA passed away on May 3, 2019. Barbara was born in Milton MA, the daughter of Raymond Francis Barrett and Margery Finegan Barrett. Barbara’s brother, Edward T. (Ted) Barrett predeceased her. Barbara graduated from Thayer Academy in Braintree, MA and Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ. Barbara pursued a career in fashion journalism working at the Boston Herald and then at Vogue Magazine in New York City, where she was the fabric editor for 10 years. She married Allen Steiger in 1966 and moved to Springfield MA. She was an active volunteer in her community as a member of the Springfield Symphony Women’s League, Springfield Museum of Fine Arts and St. Mary’s Parish. She also pursued a career in real estate for 25 years. She leaves her son John Barrett Steiger of Sudbury, MA and his spouse, Holly, with three children, Colin, Camille and Anna; her son Ned Steiger of Longmeadow and his three daughters, Breanna, Celia and Margery; sister-in-law Emily Barrett of Harwichport, MA and many fabulous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Parish, 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow on Friday, May 10 at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a charity of your choice.
