Barbara Ann Douglas

Barbara Ann (Mastrangelo) Douglas, died at her home in The Villages, Florida on March 30.  Barbara leaves behind her husband of 21 years who was her rock, Cary Douglas, Sr., and the love of her life, daughter Amy Mastrangelo of Feeding Hills, MA.  Barbara also leaves her siblings, brother Ralph (Debbie) Mastrangelo, sister Donna (Niel) Scibelli, of East Longmeadow, MA, stepsons Cary Jr., of Los Angeles and Justin Douglas of Boston, her nieces and nephew Alyson and Christopher (Jacqueline) Mastrangelo and Tina (Matt) and Nicole August, and several uncles, aunts, cousins, and many friends - old and new. Barbara had a warmth and kindness that attracted people to her, and her beautiful smile was known by many.  Barbara laughed easily, and she just loved to be teased, especially by her daughter and brother, and any houseguests finding her vacuuming at dawn. A retired Springfield school teacher, she lived most of her life in Springfield and Hampden MA, and was excited and hopeful about starting a new chapter in life when she retired last year to Florida.  There she so enjoyed riding her neon yellow bike around town, with peanut butter and fluff sandwiches in its basket, attending outdoor concerts, listening to George Michael tunes on the radio, and taking care of her adopted lizard Dino.  Barbara will be dearly missed but her family is comforted that she is fully at peace now, resting in the loving arms of her predeceased parents, Francis and Tina (Calabrese) Mastrangelo. Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 4-7 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. A private burial for the family will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in her memory to your local Al-anon chapter, which supports families and friends who dearly love someone with addiction.
