Alexander J. Begg Jr.

Alexander John Begg Jr., 71, of Longmeadow, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and two daughters on September 7, 2020.  He was born on July 20, 1949 to the late Alexander Sr. and Mary Begg and was raised in Springfield, MA. He worked as a gun smith for Smith & Wesson for 25 years and at Savage Arms for 15 years. He was a former member of the Cyclonauts Touring bicycle club, loved doo-wop music, and antique cars, especially his 1949 Willy’s Overland Jeepster. He will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Karen Begg of Longmeadow, MA, his daughters Sara Begg, and Stephanie Pawlowicz, and her husband, Boleslaw, and his new little granddaughter, Noelle Ewa all from Enfield, CT. He also leaves his sisters Elizabeth Begg of Clay, NY, and Eloise Aitken and her husband David of LaMesa, CA, as well as his sister-in-laws Kathy Godwin, and Kristine David and her fiancé Tom, his brother-in-law Kenneth D’Angelo and his wife, Toni , and many nieces and a nephew. Following his retirement in 2017, Alex enjoyed volunteering for the Longmeadow Meals-on-Wheels program, Rachael’s Table and the Neighbor-2-Neighbor program. Visitation will be held at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 N Main St., East Longmeadow on September 11th from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 235 Dwight Rd., Springfield on September 12th at 10:00 am. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, 47 Pine St., West Springfield.
