EAST LONGMEADOW- Albert “Al” Viveiros passed away quietly at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke on March 30, 2018 at age ninety-six. Born on February 18, 1922 in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late Joao da Ponte and Mariana Alberto (Rodrigues) Viveiros. He was a Golden Gloves boxer before he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in five campaigns in the European Theater including Ardennes and Normandy. Al enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool, complaining about the Red Sox, and winters in Florida with the love of his life, his wife, Jane. He had a passion for classical music and soccer. Al and Jane raised their five daughters in East Longmeadow and he retired from the U.S. Post Office in Springfield, MA in 1982. Al was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Jane (Keefe) Viveiros. He will be lovingly remembered by their five daughters and sons-in-laws: Jane and Michael Beaulieu of East Longmeadow, MA, Mary Ann and Frank Sharpe of Venice, FL Paula and Michael Framarin of East Longmeadow, MA, Elizabeth and Todd Spooner of Huntington, MA and Carolyn and Thomas Conway of Longmeadow, MA; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren as well as his sisters Albertina Vincent of Peterborough, NH and Eleanor Struba of Fall River, MA. Al’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the kind and caring staff at the Soldier’s Home. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 9-10 AM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Michael’s Parish, Maple St. East Longmeadow. Burial with military honors will be in Billing Hills Cemetery, East Longmeadow.
