Yolanda Grace Forslund

Yolanda Grace (Albano) Forslund, 89, of Apex, North Carolina, and formerly of Sixteen Acres section of Springfield, died Friday at home. Born in Springfield on June 4, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Francesca (Cardaropoli) Albano, who came from Bracigliano, Province of Salerno, Italy. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1945 and later worked as a bookkeeper at the former Springfield Buick. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ralph Forslund, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on June 10, 1950. She was a stay at home mom until her children were grown and returned to work as a teacher's aide at Putnam Vocational High School, retiring in 1994. She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church and served on the Finance Committee and volunteered at the bingo games and Christmas bazaars. She spent many happy summers with her family in Wells, Maine and relocated to North Carolina in 1997. Yolanda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who lived her life with dignity and class. Sadly Ralph died in 1985 after thirty five years of marriage. Yolanda is survived by her daughter, Ruth Barbour and husband Glenn of Agawam, son John and wife Natalie of Apex, brother Fred and wife Connie of Springfield, and grandchildren, Mark (Steve) of San Diego CA, Michael of Enfield CT, Erika (Daniel), Matthew and Kara of Apex and many nieces, nephews and friends. Two older sisters, Tina and Genevieve, predeceased Yolanda. Her family would like to thank Mattie Coley, Sharon Thacker, Rex Rehab and Nursing of Apex, Waverly Hematology, Carolina Family Practice, and Transitions Lifecare for their kind and compassionate care of Yolanda. Her family will receive friends on Friday, June 30th from 9-10:30 AM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Springfield. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary Magdalene Church Building Fund, 625 Magdala Place, Apex, NC 27502 or a charity of one’s choice.
