WEST SPRINGFIELD – William L. Pilbin, Jr., 89, passed away on July 26, 2017 at Noble Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hardwick, VT on May 1, 1928, he was a son of the late William, Sr. and Addie (McCombie) Pilbin. Bill worked 20 years at the St. Johnsbury Lamoille County Railroad in VT before relocating to West Springfield in 1967. After 18 years, he retired from Monsanto where he worked as a rail and truck dispatcher. He worked 4 more years at Polysar Co. (now known as NOVA) in Springfield. Bill enjoyed being an outdoorsman and volunteering his time at Noble Hospital. Besides being a faithful member, he also served as a trustee at First Baptist Church in West Springfield. Bill will be remembered fondly for his devotion to the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Phyllis M. Pilbin, his faith in Jesus Christ, and his love for his family. Predeceased by his daughter Cynthia Forbes and sons-in-law Mark McCullah and Dick Spencer, he leaves his wife Phyllis; children Sharon McCullah, Sylvia DiLiso (Michael), Debra O’Leary (David), Thomas Arnold (Louise), Sheryll Chabot (Ed), Bette LeBlanc (Marcel), Leslie Dickerson, Joan Spencer, James Pilbin (Darlene), Gary Pilbin (Jackie), William Pilbin, III (Charlie) and Richard Forbes (Patty) as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren including Dawn DiStefano, Heather Breveleri and Alicia Arnold who were with him when he passed. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Monastery Heights and Noble Hospital for their loving care.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church, 337 Piper Road, West Springfield, MA.
