Springfield - Vera S. Albano, 94, passed peacefully in her sleep in hospice care at the St. Francis Hospital Oncology unit on Saturday September 23rd, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Lorenzina and Giuseppe Sardi of Italy. Her husband, Peter L. Albano, passed away in 2001 after 52 years of marriage. She is survived by her sister, Lorraine M. Quinn and sister-in-law, Emily McBride. She leaves her son, Peter and his wife Lisa, and grandsons Nicholas and Zachary; her daughter, Lorrie and her husband Charles Bourque, granddaughter Christina and grandson Charles and his wife Dania and great grandson Isaac. She also leaves 2 nephews, 5 nieces, several great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews.
Vera graduated from Commerce high school and worked for a Mass Mutual subsidiary before starting her family. She loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was a member of the Jewish Community Center for many years. She swam in the pool every day with her "swimming ladies", a wonderful group of women, whose friendships she cherished. Vera had a quiet, kind and sweet personality and was always ready to help or listen to anyone. We will all miss her dearly.
Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Wednesday September 27th from 4 – 7 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Vera’s funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday September 28th at 10 AM in the funeral home, followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield.
