Michael J. Bynum

Springfield - It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Michael James Bynum, 56, on November 20, 2017. Son of James A. Bynum and the late Constance M. (Fitzgerald) Bynum. Brother of Deborah Bynum Casey and Kimberly Bynum Zeosky. Michael was born on January 25, 1961 in Springfield, Mass. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1979. Michael took pleasure in being outdoors and was an active skier and kayaker until his health deteriorated years ago. He enjoyed carpentry and completed his greatest carpentry accomplishment, a pergola, just days before his death. Anyone close to Michael knew he was not one to shy away from a spirited political conversation ─ and, he certainly had plenty to talk about this past year. Michael was one of the longest living dialysis patients in Western Mass. In 2012, Michael and his dog survived the Springfield, Mass tornado with only scratches after being blown out of the second story of his house. Michael was employed for many years with the United States Postal Service as a machinist until his retirement. Those who knew Michael would admire his dry wit, his resilience, and his incredible strength when faced with adverse physical challenges. Michael’s kind and benevolent heart were apparent to all those he came in contact with. Heartfelt thanks to the many doctors, nurses and professionals who cared for Michael over the years. He leaves behind his family, several nieces and nephews and his beloved friend Cathy Paquin, who will forever carry Michael’s spirit in their hearts. Following cremation there will be a private graveside service for family.
