Mary Clare Johnston

Longmeadow - Mary Clare (Hurley) Johnston, 71, of Longmeadow, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 16, 2017 at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Boston, MA to Dr. Paul D. Hurley and Rita (Marra) Hurley. Upon graduating from High School, Mary received her Associates Degree and worked with her father in his office of Ophthalmology. Mary later moved to Springfield and continued her work in medical offices before starting her family with her loving husband, Ronald. Most recently Mary worked in the Longmeadow Public School System as a School Nurse at both Center and Blueberry Hill Elementary Schools. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Longmeadow and loved her family dearly. She will be missed by her mother, Rita Hurley of Waltham, MA; her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Ronald Johnston of Longmeadow; her three sons, Ian Johnston and his wife Shadi of Brookline, MA, Brian Johnston and his wife Jennifer of Malden, MA and Brett Johnston of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; eight siblings, Danny, Peter, Tommy, Gary, Greg, Patricia, Carolyn and Andrea; her five adored grandchildren, Aidan, Liam, Claire, Grace, Leila and one on the way, and by several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Friday November 17th from 4 – 7 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Mary’s Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday November 18th at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow. Burial will be private for the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association – MA/NH Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
