Mark Peter Wiernasz

A natural journalist, NASCAR enthusiast, and family man, Mark Peter Wiernasz was known for his wonderful sense of humor and strong work ethic. His dedication to the communications industry was commendable from being a racing announcer at Riverside Park Speedway and Monadnock Speedway to Assignment Manager at Channel 22News for over 42 years; Mark had a knack for the news and its fast paced environment. In addition to car racing, Mark was an avid Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins fan, and enjoyed spending time gardening. He cherished family trips to Wallis Sands State Beach in New Hampshire. He was a graduate of Easthampton High School and Springfield Technical Community College (STCC).

Surrounded by his loving family, Mark sadly passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Easthampton, he was the son of the late Chester and Phylis (Ciechomski) Wiernasz. He is survived by his loving wife Jean M. (Shea) Wiernasz; his two caring sons Matthew and Peter Wiernasz, both of Feeding Hills; his sister Diane Cole of Houston TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Mark’s family extends a special thank you to Dr. Farhad Bahrassa, Neurological Surgeon from Baystate Medical Center, who provided compassion and dedicated care to Mark and his family; and also for the phenomenal care Mark received from the hospital’s ICU nursing staff.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 3:00-6:00pm at Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation on 985 Main Street in Agawam. The funeral will be on Monday, July 24, 2017 beginning at 9am at the funeral home, followed by a 10am Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. John the Evangelist Church and burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield.
