Joseph James Frangie, 82, of Westfield and Longmeadow, MA, succumbed to lung cancer at the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke on April 16, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Joseph was born on March 1, 1935 in Springfield, to James and Ann (Halpy) Frangie; the youngest of 3 children. He was a peacetime United States Army Veteran who honorably served his country, following the Korean Conflict. Joe worked hard to insure a safe, prosperous and healthy future for his family. He worked in the trucking industry until retirement. In addition to the deep love of his family, Joe enjoyed swimming, the stock market, casino gambling, and the History Channel. Joe was happily married for 60 years to the late Shirley (Hawley) Frangie. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Frangie, Jr.; and his two sisters, Helen Diaduk and Janet Wilson. He is survived by his two daughters, Ann (Christopher) Ferrero and Catherine Zancho. Joseph was a proud and loving grandfather to his three grandchildren, Jessica (Stephen) Silansky, Joseph and Stanley Zancho; and loving great grandfather to Angelina and Jaime Silansky. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and an awesome grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed by all. A special thank you to the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke, 3rd floor North for their loving care and support. At the family’s request, Committal services with military honors will be private at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. There are no calling hours.
