East Longmeadow – Henry M. Foggs, Jr. 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 7th at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born and raised in Springfield to the late Henry M. Foggs Sr. and Euralee (Lewis) Foggs, and attended Classical High School. Henry served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII. Throughout his career, Henry was Butcher in Springfield and later employed as a Defense Policeman at Westover Air Force Base. Upon retiring, Henry became a Foster Grandparent for 29 years for the Urban League in Springfield.
Henry was a Life member of the Carl L. Talbot VFW Post 6189, now merged with VFW Post 625 in Chicopee, and enjoyed dancing, reading history, non-fictional books and jazz music. He was a hard working family man and loved his family dearly. He leaves is beloved wife of 70 years, Jean E. Mifflin Moran Foggs of East Longmeadow; his son, Philip Foggs and his wife Mary of Chicopee and his extended sons, Lewis, David and Paul Thaxton; his sister, Marguerite Oakes of Springfield; two grandchildren, Tonya and Troy Foggs; great granddaughter, Jazmin Foggs and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Henry M. Foggs III, extended son, Vincent Thaxton and by his three brothers, Andrew, Bruce and John Foggs.
The family wishes to thank the staff on three North at the Holyoke Soldiers Home for the loving and compassionate care they gave our Henry. It is greatly appreciated.
Family and friends are invited to meet for visitation on Monday September 18th from 9 – 11 AM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, followed by an 11 AM service in the funeral home. Committal services with Military Honors will be at 1 PM in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam.
