Helen DeGeorge

Helen DeGeorge, 94, of Morrisville, NC, formerly of Springfield, MA and Boynton Beach, FL, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 in Morrisville, NC. Born in New York, NY on December 16, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Maria (Giorgi) Marchetti. Helen was employed as an executive assistant at Mass Mutual Insurance Company, before leaving to start her family. She was a hands-on mother who served as a Cub Scout den mother and brownie leader. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in Springfield and was an active member of the parish women’s club. For many years she volunteered her time at Springfield Hospital (now Bay State Medical Center) and worked on Red Cross Blood Drives. She loved European travel, especially to Italy, the country of her parent’s birth. She spoke fluent Italian and had a keen appreciation of the country’s culture and cooking. She was an avid reader and line dancer and continued to pursue both activities into her nineties. Helen loved spending time with her grandchildren and summered with them every year until she moved to North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles DeGeorge, in 1996 and her sister Adele Antofilli in 2012. She leaves her son, Charles DeGeorge and his wife Beverly of Suffield, CT; her daughter Mary Ellen DeGeorge and her husband William Boghosian of Cary, NC; 2 grandchildren, Hannah and Adam Boghosian and her friend and caregiver Angela Faison. Her family will receive friends on Monday, July 17th from 9-10:30 AM at the Colonial Forastiere Funeral Home, 985 Main St., Agawam. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 446 Mountain Rd., Suffield, CT, with burial to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield.
