Germaine (Penna) Senecal, 87, of Springfield, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at The Reserve in East Longmeadow. She was born February 17, 1930 in Springfield, MA to the late Vincenzo and Lillian (D’Amore) Penna. She lived in Springfield her entire life. She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Albert J. Senecal and leaves her 3 step-children, Ernest Senecal of Northampton, Sandra LeBeau of Granby, MA, and Cheryl Moreau of Holyoke; 4 step grandchildren, 7 step great-grandchildren; 1 step great-great-grandson; 2 brothers, Justino Penna and his wife Janet of Avon, CT, and Paul Penna of Westfield; her sister Louise Scarnici of East Longmeadow and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by 2 brothers, Stephen Penna and Vincent Penna, Jr. She was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School, class of 1947 and worked for the Springfield Armory before starting her 40 year career at Package Machinery in East Longmeadow, retiring in 1995. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, and a member of the Stella D’Italia Womens Guild. Germaine spent many years as a volunteer at the Brightside Home for Children giving care and love to the young children. She was a very special woman, sister and aunt to all of her nieces and nephews and enjoyed attending graduations and weddings and all special events in their lives.Germaine and Albert had a special life together traveling many years to Ogunquit, Maine and frequent trips throughout New England. She truly believed that he was a devoted husband and cherished their years together. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 12th from 4-7 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Her Funeral will begin Thursday, July 13th at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St Michael’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
