Elba Escobar

Springfield - Elba (Lima) Escobar, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away on August 3, 2017. She was born in Cuba to the late Rafael and Clara (Castillo) Lima on December 5, 1928. She and her husband Luis immigrated to the United States with their sons to escape communism in 1962. Elba was a strong believer in education and as Teacher’s Aide and Translator at Lincoln School she impacted the lives of many young people throughout her 25 years with the Springfield School System. Elba was a communicant of Holy Name Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and most of all caring for her family. She leaves her loving husband of 66 years, Luis A. Escobar; her sons, Luis E. Escobar and his wife Louise of Feeding Hills, and Carlos Escobar of Monson; her grandson, Adam Escobar and his wife Kristen; her great-grandchildren Jackson and Thomas; and her brothers, Aristedes Lima of Springfield and Rafael Lima Jr. of Cuba. Elba will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, her friends and all the students she helped over the years. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, August 6th from 4-6PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. A funeral home service will be held on Monday, August 7th at 10AM followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield.
