Dwain Lee Bent

East Longmeadow - Dwain Lee Bent, 71, passed away June 2, 2017 with his family by his side, and in the compassionate and gentle care of everyone on Springfield 3, Katz Oncology Unit at Baystate Medical Center. The family also would like to send their special thanks to the many nurses and caregivers over the past 12 years at the D’Amour Cancer Center. A very special thanks to Donna Wallace, RN who was with him from the start of his treatments to the very end. He was born in Springfield and grew up in the Rushville section of the city. He attended Springfield Trade High School. He served in the USMC Reserves as a Lance Corporal E-3. Dwain had a lifelong passion for motorcycles and classic cars and enjoyed attending car shows and cruise nights with his own “classic” and having his “side kick”, his grandson Morgan, by his side. He was the son of the late Charles H. and Theresa (Pepper) Bent, and was predeceased by his youngest daughter Marie Robbie Bent. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 48 years, Christina “Pixie” (Weiss) Bent, his daughter Julie Davis and her husband Todd and son Jeremy, and his grandson Morgan Dixon, as well as an extended family in Florida. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, June 6th from 4-8PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. A funeral home service will be held on Wednesday, June 7th at 10AM followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Dwain did appreciate flowers and maintained a garden of his own, but it was his wish that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Shelter, 627 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104. The family asks those who come to say their goodbyes, to please bring a non-perishable, non-expired food item for donation to the East Longmeadow Emergency Food Pantry.
