Obituary

Donald “Don” M. Creanza, 80, of Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away on March 10, 2024 after loving care from his family. Don was born on April 1, 1943 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Michael and Thelma Creanza.
His life was dedicated to his wife, Marilyn Creanza, who he married in 1966. He is survived by her and his two daughters, Bonnie Zawacki and her husband Carl and Jen Ryan and her husband Chris, and four grandchildren: Matthew Ryan, Lydia Ryan, Chas Zawacki, and Will Ryan. He had loving relationships with them as well as his two siblings, Margaret and Vick Boudet and Bob Creanza, and his nieces and nephews. Don is also survived by his two sister-in-laws, Donna Boileau and Janice Flebotte. Don made each of his family members feel loved, appreciated, and at the center of his universe. He also cherished each of his friendships and always went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome.
After graduating from Springfield Trade School in 1961, Don worked in a variety of tradesman positions. His early years were spent as an auto mechanic, skillfully painting and repairing vehicles. Before retiring Don worked at American International College. In his adult years, Don also served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He was a faithful man with a true love of God, attending Holy Cross parish in Springfield, MA nearly every Sunday.
In his free time, Don enjoyed many hobbies. He was a talented softball pitcher, loved fishing with his grandkids, exploring trails throughout Western Massachusetts with his wife, and enjoyed playing bocce at the Dante Club in West Springfield. Don was a master gardener, woodworker, and always had an eye for “tree-belt treasures”, turning beat-up objects into beautiful gifts. He also dedicated a large portion of his life to art, including work with pastels, paint, and sketches, telling a story with each one of his pieces. Don and his wife Marilyn treasured their annual Winter trips to Florida with friends and family.
Don’s family would like to thank the team of medical professionals at Kidney Care, Pioneer Valley Cardiology, and Mercy Hospital who made his final years and passing as comfortable as possible for him and his family.
