Springfield- David Weldon Cobb, age 61, affectionately known as “Dave” and “Elvis” , Ascended Into the Journey of Everlasting Life on Saturday November 11, 2017.

Dave was born in Waltham, Massachusetts and was the son of the late Chandler and Shirley (Welch) Cobb. He was educated at the Belchertown State School. Dave enjoyed working for many years at Brooks Pharmacy, Friendly’s, and most recently at Rite Aid. He enjoyed the music of Elvis Presley, the Boston Red Sox and a good game of bowling.

David attended Pathfinder Regional Vocational High School while living at Ingersoll Grove Community Residence. After completing High School David worked at Goodwill Industries. Knowledge gained at school, work and at home gave him the skills to acquire his first competitive job at Mercy Hospital's kitchen, which he loved. While living at Ingersoll Grove, David had a very full life involving various community interactions, such as: The Bureau for Exceptional Children, Jericho House, the Jericho Players, Pioneer Valley Advocacy Group, Springfield Advocacy Group, Springfield Developmental Center Recreations, Square Dancing, Bingo, Bowling, Special Olympics, Springfield Park and Recreation Group, just to mention a few. In between these activities David was frequently going out with his house mates for breakfast and or lunch to the local Friendly's and often to the movies on the weekends. David enjoyed many of these activities sans staff where he and a few friends would set out in Springfield. He delighted in various culinary accomplishments especially his legendary meatloaf. His special talent during these years was his unique ability of being happy and uplifting. He was an honorary uncle to Kate and Rich Niedel's children Ashley and Brad whom he lived with at Ingersoll Grove. Both children were frequent riders in his shopping cart during grocery shopping. In 1986 David moved into his own apartment and started a new chapter in his life.

He leaves his sister, Susan McDonough of Pelham, Massachusetts; his brother in law and spouse, Joseph and Chalice Cobb of Vancouver, BC, Canada; a niece and her spouse, Chandra and Alex Jenkins of Portland, Oregon, a nephew Jason Oleksiewicz of Vancouver, BC; two great nieces Cordelia and Beatrice Jenkins , of Portland , Oregon; and many many friends who will miss him at Path Light in Springfield.
