East Longmeadow – Constance “Connie” M. (Talbot) Howell, 85, a longtime resident of East Longmeadow, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family at her side on Friday March 24, 2017. She was born May 26, 1931, a daughter of the late John and Mary (McGlennan) Talbot. In early years, Connie was employed at Steiger’s and in the rectory at St. Michael’s Parish in East Longmeadow. She then went on to spend many years, both in the kitchen and as a crossing guard, at Birchland Park Middle School in East Longmeadow. She was a longtime communicant of St. Michael’s Parish where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Red Hat Society, Young at Heart Club and the Morning Glory Walkers. She always kept busy with her many hobbies such as baking, cooking, shopping, crocheting, bingo, playing cards and cheering on the Boston Red Sox, especially Big Papi. But her greatest times were those spent with her dear family and friends making many wonderful memories. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Charles M. Howell in February of 2016. She is survived by her seven children, Thomas Howell of Hampden, John Howell and his wife Colleen of Colorado, Suzanne Lynch of East Longmeadow, Philip Howell of Florida, Julie Soriano and her husband Brian of Springfield, Marcia Theberge and her husband Rene of East Longmeadow and Ann Howell of East Longmeadow; her two brothers-in-law, Robert Howell and his wife Angela of East Longmeadow and Kenneth Howell and his wife Terry of Georgia; her sister-in-law, Mary Louise Ferris of Marlborough, MA; twelve grandchildren, Billy Jo, Justin, Emily, Trevor, Colby, Mac, Jim, Chris, Nick, Samantha, Melissa and Danielle; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank Lauren, Kate and the staff at Mercy Hospice for their kind and compassionate care as well as to the many great pca’s and home aides over the years. Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Tuesday March 28th from 4-7 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Connie’s funeral ceremony will be held on Wednesday March 29th beginning at 9 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in East Longmeadow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Connie’s memory to Mercy Hospice, P.O.
