Basil John Tranter

LONGMEADOW – Basil John Tranter, 87, passed away on January 9, 2018 at his home. Born in Barrow-in-Furness, England on June 14, 1930, he was the son of the late Clarence and Anna (McNiece) Tranter. Basil leaves behind his beloved wife Janet (Felegy) Tranter of Longmeadow; son David Tranter (Joanne) of E. Longmeadow and daughters Kathleen Lamoureux (Dennis B.) of Springfield and Cynthia Hagood (Tony) of Colorado. Basil was the grandfather of five grandchildren Anthony Hagood, Jessica Huynh (Khai), Megan Souza (Daniel), Kristen Tranter (Josh Keaton) and Jonathan Lamoureux (Candice). His recent greatest joy was becoming a great grandfather of three beautiful baby boys, Moriarty, Joshua and Dawson. He is also survived by his brother Ronald Tranter (Sandy) and their daughter Kim Tranter of Colorado and nieces Rosemary and Joanne of PA. He was predeceased by his youngest son Mark Tranter and brother Joseph Tranter. Basil had worked for Burroughs Corp., ITT and Interstate Electronics before retiring in 1997. He enjoyed fishing, painting, reading, the beach and watching the New England Patriots. Family and friends may gather on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 4 – 6 PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral and Cremation, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow, MA with a service at 6 PM.
