Althea Garnet (Shevock) Vacirca, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Saturday afternoon, November 18,th 2017. She grew up in Springfield to be a loved and dedicated dental hygienist after being educated at Classical High School, Forsythe School for Dental Hygiene and Northeastern University. Raised by father William Shevock and mother Georgia (Ingraham) Shevock, Althea was a lover of reading, knitting, sports and music. She was the teenage sweetheart, beloved wife and soulmate to retired Springfield Police Lieutenant Francis M. Vacirca. She was the sister and very best friend to her twin Arlene (Shevock) Rea as well as her brother-in-law Armand Rea of Agawam. Although her only daughter Amy Arlene Vacirca predeceased her, Althea was an adored mother to Amy, grandmother of Georgia Vacirca, aunt to Tricia Rea Dobis and her husband Jason Dobis as well as their children Elizabeth, Jonathan and Kathryn Dobis. She leaves behind her sister-in-law Michele Guindon and her children, as well as her closest friend Donna Mendenhall. Althea was a dental hygienist for 51 years and enjoyed her professional relationship with Dr. Christopher Donohue. She loved her many patients and they loved in return. Althea was a friend to all.
Funeral services for Althea will be held Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017 at 10:30 am at the Colonial-Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 985 Main Street, Agawam, MA. Burial will be at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Agawam. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 21st from 4:00 to 8:00p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street , Framingham, MA 01701 or to a charity of your choice.
