Ludlow – Abraham “Ham” Etkin, 91, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2017 at his home at Keystone Commons in Ludlow. He was born in Springfield, the son of Harry and Lena (Greenberg) Etkin. He was a 1943 graduate of Springfield Technical High School and after graduation enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He was proud to serve as a Pharmacist’s Mate, 3rd class in WWII at home and on foreign shores. Ham worked as a mail sorter and clerk for the U. S. Postal Service in Springfield for 28 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans of the U. S., Post 26 and the Springfield Boy’s Club. In his later years while living at Keystone Commons, Ham was a participant in the Alzheimer’s Fund Raising Art show where several of his oil paintings were displayed. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers; Harry, Jacob, Lloyd and Sidney Etkin, and his sisters, Ida Ghazil and Rose Lamoureux. He leaves his loving wife of 48 years, Lillian A. (Rossi) Etkin; and several nieces and nephews. Ham’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 31st at 11AM in Forastiere Funeral Home, 45 Locust St., Springfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery. A visiting hour will precede the service from 10-11AM.
